Fairness, freedom, opportunity, and respect for human rights should be at the core of our immigration system. 80 artists alongside immigrant rights organizations and cultural partners have joined together via @inplainsightmap – a stunning effort to make visible the injustices of the largest immigration detention system in the world. Over the 4th of July weekend, messages were “sky typed” over detention facilities, immigration courts, borders, and other relevant sites. I have been horrified by many things the past few years, but particularly alarmed and angered by the treatment of immigrants, especially children. While the atrocities have faded from the headlines, public art projects like this make sure we don’t look away.
