In the first, the visitor encounters a room featuring seven white panels—replicating Robert Rauschenberg’s “White Painting” (1951). After 4 minutes and 33 seconds (alluding to the length of John Cage’s “silent” score), the installation shifts: The lights dim, and the “paintings” transform into a screen onto which is projected a 60-second film of the Norwegian hillside accompanied by Edgard Varèse’s “Déserts” (1950–54), music originally composed for an imaginary modernist film. ⠀ At the core of this installation is Parreno’s reference to these three 20th-century works, each of which attempts to represent purity or the “seemingly infinite.” By rearranging their contexts, Parreno interrupts their time-based logic and our understanding of the ineffable. ⠀ To explore the rest of the “Time” gallery, click the link in our bio. ⠀ __ “El Sueño de una Cosa” (2001), © Philippe Parreno, courtesy of the artist and Gladstone Gallery, New York and Brussels. #PhilippeParreno #GuggenheimCollection #Guggenheim」9月13日 0時05分 - guggenheim
