Photo by @francescolastrucci Uygur women buy silk for a wedding at the market in Kashgar, Xinjiang Province, China. Kashgar’s Sunday Bazaar is arguably the biggest market in Central Asia, with a history stretching back 2,000 years to the ancient Silk Road times. Vendors sell food, spices, carpets, fabrics, livestock, and almost anything you can think of.
Located in the remote desert of the westernmost corner of China, close to the borders of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, Kashgar has always been a major convergence point for different cultures. Today it is predominantly populated by Uygurs.
