The Supreme Court Justice died on Sept. 18, 2020 due to metastatic pancreatic cancer. She was 87. I remember when I was assigned to do this shoot (for Glamour Magazine), and I was so excited, though very intimidated to be photographing such an icon of feminism, of justice, integrity, and equality. Suddenly I felt my life was completely inconsequential in the face of a woman who had changed the course of history for so many of us, with her lifelong fight for all the right things. When she entered the room, she seemed so physically small compared to her professional stature. I photographed her in the Supreme Court Building, and then asked to go with her to her chambers. We went in, and she removed her robe to reveal a lemon-colored dress and matching shoes. She immediately started reading documents on her desk. I asked her to pose briefly, but I didn’t want to take her away from her work for too long. All I really wanted to do was spend the afternoon with her, listening to her stories. I didn’t say anything, though, because I knew the nation, and her family, needed every ounce of her time.」9月20日 5時41分 - natgeo
