😎 On September 2nd we introduced the new S-Class! Each of its predecessors marked the very forefront of modern technology. Originally introduced in the spring of 1954, the Type 220 was the first Mercedes-Benz six-cylinder model in a self-supporting design and featured a previously unknown level of comfort. Safe driving characteristics were guaranteed by the single-joint swing axle, which the Type 220 introduced to series production automotive engineering. With the arrival of the revised, more powerful Type 220 S (74 kW/100 PS) in 1956, the letter “S” made its permanent entry into the nomenclature of the Mercedes-Benz luxury class and underlined the special class status of the “Ponton” six-cylinder.
