The last week of summer, as told through our home dinner table.
Day 1: Clams with garlic, sweet soy sauce, chilies and Chinese parsley
Day 2: Tomato and soft scrambled egg (with just a touch of sugar)
Day 3: Shishito peppers stuffed with pork, fried and then quick braised in soy and ginger
Day 4: Fried soft tofu (using potato starch for extra crispiness) and garlic vinaigrette, pork patty with salted egg, and Napa cabbage
Day 5: Braised medley of beef shin, tofu and egg with steamed egg plant with oyster sauce vinaigrette
Day 6: “Da Lu” noodles with lily bulbs and wood ear mushrooms and egg
Day 7: Maman’s first steak tartar in over a year
Day 8: Our first Apple cider donut of the season
And just like that, it’s fall... and as tough as 2020 has been, it has managed to still leave room for some of my best memories around food and family.
