Lesser known is the fact that the mountainous region that runs across the top of the country -- known as the Hindu Kush Himalaya region -- is known as ‘Asia’s water tower.’ It is the source of ten large Asian river systems and provides water to one-fourth of the world’s population. Chew on that for a second. With tremendous ecological, cultural, and economic significance, the region has earned a fitting nickname: the pulse of the planet. Yet this pristine mountain ecosystem is also on the frontlines of climate change. Even if the world's most ambitious #climate targets are met, one third of glaciers in the region will melt by 2100.
