When we are disconnected from nature, we are disconnected from ourselves. Bali has provided me with the chance to get back to me, reminding me of my roots growing up barefoot. When I was running my jewellery brand in London I found that, as my business grew, the pressures and deadlines took over. I didn’t know when or how to stop. I didn’t allow myself to just be. It was always onto the next meeting, the next event, the next social gathering. I turned holidays into work opportunities and I was disengaged from my friends and family - my backbones. I lost my sense of priority and self care. I had tunnel vision for driving forward, even though I was just treading water. This was the start of my realisation to slow down, when my body burned out and I could no longer continue at the same pace. I landed in Bali to get away, without having any expectations, idealistic for the transformation that people know Bali to offer. Yet the Island of the Gods, without intention, allowed for me to find my purpose, my truth. It gave me the space to be my authentic self without any pressures. I was healed through observing, hugged by nature, and taught by the Balinese philosophical way of life. I learned to be in harmony with yourself by respecting the spirit of life, the people that surround you, and Mother Nature. “Life, religion and art all converge in Bali. They have no word in their language for ‘artist’ or ‘art’. Everyone is an artist.” This quote was a dangling carrot that made me understand the power of art created with intention which has led me on a three-year voyage to discover and co-create with the best Masters of Craft on the island, to learn about their traditions, way of life and mastery.
