There is the lack of demand for artisan jewellery due to mass produced factory goods & now on top of it all due to Covid-19. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Artisans in developing countries cannot compete with factory leads times or prices as well as not being able to self promote themselves due to current orders being cancelled, the lack of personal resources, government support & strict lockdowns; where local markets are closed, materials are increasingly more expensive & tourism is at a halt. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It has become critical for the crafts culture & local economies. Masters of craft are dumping their bench tools to work the land to harvest crops so they can feed their families yet they are not making any income. They’re in survival mode. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So the harsh truth is traditional craftsmanship is at its highest risk of disappearing, communities are on survival mode & the world is going back to where we started 6 months ago. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What do we do? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ • Direct to consumer, you, our clients, friends and our networks.
