And gifts are not to be prodded or pressed. . Changes. The skin has long been outgrown and shed whilst a new one develops and forms. Fenced garden beds will not do. Give me vast fields or forests or even desert expanses, perhaps all three. Autonomy too, my other love language. Room to breathe and to notice and to switch gears, myself. Room to figure it out and let the clay earth stay put underneath my fingernails. I like this mud. It’s like paint. But I’m not done digging and exploring quite yet. I will not rush. I’m out here remembering why I create. And for what. This is important. Layers of dead skin shed and I am itching. Thank goodness for that. . Leaves are turning color before the load lightens and I hear their crunch underfoot. Branches can then rest and germinate newness. Compost from the old, nutrients for the new. Nothing is wasted. It’s practical and extravagant simultaneously, vibrant yet still, paradox and beauty all at the same time, the and instead of either/or. Juxtaposition. That’s where I’m at too.
