Weaning update! Things are getting messy over here! (in the best way possible) We decided to start at 5 months after being advised it could help with Sienna’s reflux. She was also showing signs she was ready to start trying solids - She’s able to sit up in a high chair, has developed hand eye coordination and seems really interested in what we’re eating. We started with smooth purées and we’re now trialing two spoon fed meals a day as well as her four milk feeds. For breakfast I make a small amount of baby porridge using gluten free baby oats with her formula and add a different fruit puree each day. So far, she’s really enjoyed banana, blueberry, pear, mango and prune. I’m avoiding acidic fruits for now and I’ll slowly introduce them later on. For lunch I’ve been offering her a different vegetable each day and keeping a diary of any that have made her reflux flare up. I plan to continue for another week or so and see how she’s doing before starting combinations of the fruits and veggies she’s already tried. I’ve read a few books and asked for advice from friends and everyone seems to have done things differently, so ultimately it seems there isn’t a right or wrong way with weaning, every baby is so different! It seemed a little overwhelming at first, I felt like I was just getting the hang of her routine and it all changed again. I’m starting to realist that’s how it’s always going to be! Having said that it’s so rewarding seeing her smile and enjoy new flavours, even if the kitchen ends up looking like a I’ve had a fight with a food processor and lost. 😂 I would love to hear from you about your weaning experiences especially with reflux babies 💗
