I’ve noticed that the rise in popularity of online shopping has forced many independent design retailers to shutter, but so much can be gained from visiting a store in-person. Going into a design shop or gallery, meeting the owners and curators, and listening to their stories is one of the biggest joys of buying furniture and homeware. A lot can be gained from seeing the scale of items first-hand, and touching them to feel the qualities of materials. I was reminded of this when I recently visited the East Hollywood showroom @denlosangeles. I had previously bought from DEN online, but when I stepped into the physical space – taking the necessary precautions – I could immediately get a better sense of their curatorial direction and vibe from the way pieces are arranged and displayed.
