Happy Birthday to artist Chris Ofili, born #onthisday in 1968.
Shown above is a portfolio of 10 etchings from the artist’s North Wales series, inspired by a trip he took in 1996. If you look very, very closely, the specific sites that inspired the etchings are noted at the bottom left of each. Ofili describes these works as ‘nourishing. It can take me to places within myself that are unfamiliar.’ The small format (250x200mm) and delicate, repetitive black markings show a more private and introspective side to the artist’s practice.
