#ClaudeClark was born #onthisday in Rockingham, Georgia, in 1915. His family moved to Philadelphia in 1923, where participated in the Philadelphia Fine Print Workshop, part of the Graphic Arts Division of the Work Projects Administration. Devoted exclusively to the creation of fine art prints, the workshop provided Clark and other notable African American printmakers with support to advance their artistic practice outside the prejudices of the art market. It also gave them the freedom to experiment, create new printmaking processes, and express their unique perspective on the American scene.
