Jackson was born in Panorama City, California, in 1974 and later moved to New York, where he is currently based. He studied at the University of Washington before earning his MFA at Rutgers University. Over the last 15 years, Jackson has created an extraordinary portfolio of works and projects. The new solo exhibition Flowers, Windows and Thistles at the Hauser & Wirth gallery in Zurich presents new series of drawings and paintings, the majority of which were created during lockdown. They grapple with a few of the artist’s reflections on certain elements of American culture, namely private property ownership and the firearms industry. These artworks cast light on the artist’s integrity, his intellectual honesty. Throughout Jackson’s oeuvre, the idiosyncratic associations of materials, processes, and meanings create a layered reading of recurrent themes, where a critique on Western hegemony intersects with the desolate nature of humanity and its terrifying beauty.
