Nigerian-born artist Njideka Akunyili Crosby (born 1983) lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Her cultural identity combines strong attachments to her country of birth and to her adopted home, a hybrid identity that is reflected in her collages and paintings.

'I think there are more and more people in life -- as people are moving around for various reasons -- who live in simultaneous spaces at the same time. In the work I'm trying to get to that, this feeling of multiple spaces that exist together.'

Her densely layered figurative compositions -- precise in style and nostalgic in content -- conjure the complexity of contemporary experience. 🖌️💭
