In the early 70’s through the 80’s my Great Uncle Robert along side my dad and Uncle Danny started a movement in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. My uncle organized underground paper called “La Guardia” and they organized peaceful protests and sit ins. The newspaper was created during the time of the labor movement led by Chicano laborers' union Obreros Unidos (United Workers) to improve migrant workers rights. Using their voice they made a change for Chicanos in Milwaukee. They saw a wrong and wanted it fixed, they stood for what was right. Growing up my dad taught us about Emilio Zapata and Pancho Villa. He taught us about our history back to our Native America ancestry. We never participated in history lessons that the school gave us. He taught us about the truth when it comes to history. We were taught knowing our lands were stolen, to this day I’m still in a legal battle alongside my family trying to get some of our land back in Texas. I come from a line of strong outspoken men and women. I believe in equal rights, I believe this country needs reform to create that equality. Our policy on immigration needs change, a subject I’m very passionate about. My great grandfather and his brother swam here from Mexico, they entered illegally for an opportunity. My great grandfather later served and fought for this amazing country. My great grandmother came here on a boat from Italy. She created an amazing life and had many children. I’m proud of my great grandparents for being brave and for wanting more. I’m sick knowing over 500 kids can’t be reunited with their parents and continue to sit in cages at the border because their parents wanted a better life. I believe that this country has a long way to go before a real change can happen. I know if we keep organizing the change will come. It starts with voting you guys, ur vote does matter, it’s the key to change. Today is your day to be heard please don’t sit this one out. This election is important! Our ancestors fought so hard so we would have the right to vote. I don’t care which way you vote I’m just asking that you go make your voice heard today. ❤️ #vote #vote2020 #votelikeyourlifedependsonit」11月4日 8時31分 - lifewithmariza
