Lake Naivasha is ranked third behind Lake Victoria, and Lake Turkana in the total volume of fish landed and provides livelihoods, water, and food to thousands who live on its shores and beyond. From February to June 2020, heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding in many lakes in East Africa. These calamities coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic and affected ecosystems and livelihoods. Especially vulnerable were communities such as fishermen, who depend on fisheries as their only source of income. The measures instituted by the Kenyan government to reduce the spread of COVID-19 further aggravated this situation. The dusk to dawn curfew and the cessation of movement to cities, which are the main fish markets such as Nairobi, disrupted the fish supply chain. It resulted in a loss of employment and income for many already disadvantaged fishermen. #lakenaivasha #kenya #fishermen
