A ritual of exchange, my earnings from labor and time, for another’s craeft of labor and time. There is an honoring in the passage from one set of hands entrusting the journey to another set of hands. Craeft, art, poetry, they’re all sacred, all essentials, we cannot thrive without them, without their beauty and art. . My mom is a maker of quilted poetry, woven stories and threaded relics. It’s her passion and gift, and for many years a means for bread and hearth. Our weekends entailed early dawns of packing up wares and tables and tents to marketplaces and fairs. Weekdays were endless hours spent measuring, cutting, weaving and sewing for the next one. There is passion, yes, and there is also physical sweat, a pouring of the soul, and an endless sowing of time. My mom knows how to bargain her way with anyone, but never with a fellow maker and artisan. There is a reverence for the craeft. . I never needed this reverence instilled. I was a witness to it, growing up with a maker. I didn’t much like it when others tried to bargain with her already humbly-priced offerings. Don’t cheapen the sacred quality of treasures by angling a way to acquire them without the full offering that is due of them. It is a gift to invest in a handmade relic. One doesn’t merely get an item, but receives an imparted benediction that seeps into our own story and journey. Who wouldn’t want the full measure of that? . And so, here I am in a ritual welcoming a parcel of original-designed journals, a true work of art, by @loombound, who by serendipitous mystery, I happened to discover some months ago. A master binder, designer, author and reviver of ancient craefts, with offerings so exquisitely breathed into life. I am besought to share her work as it is too lovely and soulful and special not to, and I share from my own desire, labor and reverence. . I am a keeper of many books, some with printed words, others with blank pages. I revel in them, they bring much joy. They usher poetry into my heart and home. They are reminders of roots, reverence and the makers who breathe dreams into form and show us that we can too. With all my gratitude. 🕯」11月13日 23時45分 - catharinemisook
