Here's something I didn't know- wasting food has a massive impact on our oceans, land and air. A massive impact.

ad|Maybe you already knew that, but the bit that blew me away is that if we all stopped throwing away food at home for just a day, it would do the same for CO 2e emissions as planting over half a million trees (this is one of the surprising stats from the team at @outofdateuk who have researched this). That old veg we throw in the bin, the eggs we let go past their best before date and the leftovers we chuck away in favour of a takeaway have a vast impact on the environment. And I suppose it makes sense why- the time, energy and water that goes into growing the food and then the transportation of it, it all adds up. I've definitely chucked out lettuces once they've lost their crunch and the last few slices of bread without thinking about it so I'm reminding myself, and anyone else that needs the reminder, that one of the easiest things we can do to help the planet is simply to not buy more food than we can use and making sure we're using what we do buy before it goes off.
