I think one of the reasons I failed last year on the A5 Traverse during my second attempt was due to a lack of power endurance (ability to hang on and execute semi-difficult moves) after a full day on the wall. This year I payed a lot more attention to keeping my power up even while I was climbing on El Cap. One of the most memorable days for me was when @cannonjtc and I woke up at 2am to climb from the ground to The Alcove (~2000ft, aka the “sit start”). We got back on the ground at around 3pm, where I took a few hours to chill and then I decided to go bouldering on the Valley floor with some friends. Thankfully Yosemite is also home to some world class boulders as well as the much taller walls 😉 At first I felt super sleepy and unmotivated but was encouraged by a group of friends who brought the crash pads, lights, and the most important item - stoke! We bouldered until 9pm that night and I climbed pretty well considering it was such a long day. After that day I knew I was ready for a real attempt on Golden Gate. Huge thanks to the crew that day - @james_lucas @shawnraboutou @jess_talley @jonglassberg. James, @shannonekj and @kimbroughclimbs created one of the most comprehensive and beautiful bouldering guides out there with the @yosemitevalleybouldering guide. Check it out!
