Near Dayton, Ohio, schools in one district started the school year remotely, waiting until mid-October to resume in-person classes. But by late October, the district’s superintendent said they lacked crucial support staff, struggling every day to find teachers for 90 to 115 classrooms, competing with other districts for substitutes.

Too many people had either caught Covid-19 or had recently come into contact with someone who had it. The week before Thanksgiving, the district shifted to remote learning until Jan. 19 — more than two weeks after New Year's Day.

"Most of the exposure has come from outside of school. The quarantines are just really hard to deal with,” superintendent Tom Henderson said. Tap the link in bio to read more.
