​Beatrix Potter is best known for her illustrated children’s books telling tales of small animals. 🐈 This illustration featuring a tailor and his cat is from her second and favourite book, ‘The Tailor of Gloucester’ 🧵 Potter was also a natural scientist and conservationist, whose studies and watercolours of fungi led to her being widely respected in that field. 🍄 With the proceeds from her children’s books she bought a farm in the Lake District, gradually purchasing additional land to preserve the unique landscape. When she died in 1943, she left almost all her land to the National Trust, and is credited with preserving much of the land that now makes up the Lake District National Park. ⛰️ Potter's books continue to sell throughout the world in many languages, with her stories being retold in songs, films, ballet and animations. Her magical illustrations remain much loved across generations.
