Photo by Kris Graves @themaniwasnt / A 1912 replica of West Virginia’s Stonewall Jackson memorial has recently been removed at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in Lexington, Virginia. I made this image in September while photographing Confederate landmarks in the American South. Jackson was a Confederate general as well as a professor at VMI. Amid charges of a racist environment on campus, the VMI Board of Visitors voted to remove the statue from its prominent position on October 29.
