For GQ’s December/January issue, we visited the fathers and father figures of six Black victims of police brutality, including Jacob Blake III, the father of Jacob Blake. 

On August 23, Blake, a 29-year-old Black man, was shot in the back seven times by a white police officer in Kenosha, Wisconsin—an episode that has left him paralyzed from the waist down. “Now my son may not ever walk again,” says Blake III. “And that’s something that we have to deal with as a family. That’s not a goal that we put in front of ourselves. But you understand that now we have to embrace it.”
