The Dark Knight—along with Shrek, Grease, and 22 other films—have joined the National Film Registry as part of the Library of Congress's annual preservation catalog, ensuring that they persevere for years to come. “This is not only a great honor for all of us who worked on The Dark Knight, this is also a tribute to all of the amazing artists and writers who have worked on the great mythology of Batman over the decades,” director Christopher Nolan said in a statement celebrating the registry's most diverse slate of projects ever (nine of the 25 movies were directed by women, while seven of the 25 were directed by people of color).
