This photograph was made in a neighbor’s apartment in Long Island City, Queens, the borough where I was born and where I still reside. Manhattan has felt distant this year, as most of my commuting for work has diminished. Earlier this year as the pandemic hit, the city felt desolate—a result of one of the toughest years in recent history for this city and our nation.
