Photo by @estherhorvath / During the MOSAiC expedition in the central Arctic Ocean, Jessie Creamean, a research scientist from Colorado State University, lies next to a newly open crack in the sea ice to collect seawater exposed to the atmosphere during the polar nights. Creamean studies marine organisms that live beneath the ice and how they could become airborne. They can end up in the atmosphere, playing a key role in regulating the climate. She is using red light so as not to impact the ecosystem during the polar night. Please follow @estherhorvath for more polar stories.
