Monday was Coming of Age Day (Seijin no Hi) in Japan. On this holiday, Japanese young adults celebrate reaching the age of 20, the official age of adulthood in Japan. Traditionally, those coming of age wear furisode kimono, attend official government events, visit shrines, and party with friends late into the night. This year, some coming of age ceremonies have been canceled, and partying has been put on hold, but many young adults still dressed up and visited Meiji Jingu shrine in Harajuku, an outdoor shrine with lots of open space for safety. We want to congratulate the new adults we met at Meiji Shrine today and we're hoping that 2021 will turn out to be a great year for all of them!!
