By the age of 19, the New Yorker magazine had already published two of his drawings on their cover, sparking a career that saw his illustrations grace the pages of in @nytmag, @voguemagazine, @tatlermagazine, @harpersbazaarus, @townandcountryuk and @theworldofinteriors, ad campaigns for @lanvinofficial and @gucci, and even designing film sets. This March, 400 lots from the collection of the late artist will be heading to auction from his eclectic Parisian apartment – from furniture, silver, glass and ceramics to Islamic art, African art, books, manuscripts and fabrics. The auction will bring to the market for the first time 40 rare drawings by Le Tan himself. Among the highlights also include a portrait of Le Tan drawn by fellow draughtsman David Hockney, a quirky pair of Pierre Cardin shoes in the shape of feet and a 1930s plaster cast of decadent socialite Stephen Tennant’s left hand.
