The sad, surprising news this week that it is perhaps au revoir for now from @daftpunk sent me down a glorious marathon of listening to their incredible albums all over again. I look forward to whatever Thomas and Guy-Manuel do next in music, film or whatever the hell they want. I’m forever curious what they will turn their hands, together or separately. I had a brief but glorious intersection with them back in 2014 when I directed @ファレル・ウィリアムス’s Gust Of Wind video. Daft Punk were guests on the track and it was up to me to figure out a way for them to be in the video as they couldn’t do the main shoot. So I suggested that they be represented by giant flying stone heads a la Zardoz, which my brother Oscar mocked up as concepts and we made as miniatures to shoot in the Tehachapi Mountains. I then wanted them to do one shot against green screen that we could turn them into interstellar beings for the end shot. So I had the rare pleasure at Jim Henson Studios in LA of directing the robots for the morning. No, I can’t believe it happened either. Love you @daftpunk, love you Thomas & Guy-Manuel. Can’t wait for whatever is next.
