It’s uncomfortable to share a lot about a route you haven’t done. Many climbers prefer not to talk about their projects until they have sent them and that’s fair enough. I like to share the process because I think it’s the most valuable bit. And everything changes when you send, the doubts are gone, the route suddenly seems easy and everything becomes rose-tinted. 🌹
We’ve been trying a beautiful 9a called Esclatamasters. I’m not usually perturbed by grades but for some reason 9a is quite an intimidating number. I’m working a lot on imposter syndrome and reminding myself that although this route is hard for me, and will likely require me to become a better climber it doesn’t mean I don’t belong here.
A hard part in this process for me is believing that I have the ‘right’ body to climb so hard. Most women climbing these sorts of sport grades don’t have my body type and sometimes that makes me doubt that I can do a route like this. But truthfully I know my body is capable of it, I just don’t know when. And not knowing ‘when’ is what makes projecting so exciting! 🥳
Filmed by @ezra_byrne for a different project about mental training. Equally excited about this project! Stay tuned! 👀
