🩰 The Swing is one of the most famous and beloved paintings of the Rococo Era. Depicting a young woman in a billowing dress, she is pushed on the swing by one man behind her, and another below her peers from the bushes to glimpse underneath her dress.
The story goes, that a courtier asked the French painter Gabriel Francois Doyen to capture his mistress in this compromising scene, but refusing on the grounds of frivolity, the commission was then passed on to Fragonard instead, resulting in his most famous piece of work 🎀
