🎥 Every week this #PrideMonth, @メトロポリタン美術館 and @nyclgbtsites⁣ are coming together for dynamic conversations that explore connections between LGBTQ artists in The Met collection and the historic sites throughout New York City that connect to their legacies.⁣

Today we’re exploring noted photographer Berenice Abbott, who is best known for her 1930s photographs featured in the iconic book "Changing New York" (1939). Funded by the Federal Art Project (a division of the Works Progress Administration), the publication and photographs document the ever-changing city.

For the next three years, Abbott took hundreds of photographs of city life and architecture in all five boroughs. Additionally, Abbott was a sought-after portraitist. Among her lesbian subjects was writer Djuna Barnes. From 1935 to 1965, Abbott and her partner, the influential art critic Elizabeth McCausland, lived and worked in two flats they shared on the fourth floor of this loft building at 50 Commerce Street.

Tune in next Wednesday, June 22, at 12 pm ET as we discuss artist Martin Wong.
