This can be a hard time of year for feeling good in our bodies - weight loss companies and diet ads are working overtime to tell us we need a new body to be happier and healthier.

It can be especially triggering if you're body is going through huge changes, such as pregnancy or Postnatal recovery.

So this is a reminder not to let companies make you feel insecure so they can profit from you, and to remember that it's ok to love and respect our bodies exactly as they are today for everything they do for us.

It's funny because I still feel like my body is a Postnatal one, but now it's pregnant again I'm back to being praised. "Wow! You're glowing!". It's funny, because no one said that to me postnatally. The only time I ever got praise for my body after Alf was when I got c*vid and lost weight due to sickness and stress. But I felt my body really deserved praised and worship then - for going through childbirth (what a miracle!), for recovering all whilst keeping a tiny person alive and on little sleep.

It upsets me that the focus around Postnatal recovery is still around weight - shaming mums for not 'bouncing back', shaming mums who do 'bounce back'. But recovery is so much more than that - it's about overcoming piles and prolapse and incontinence and tears and major surgery and dealing with the increase in boob size - it's about the psychological changes of not feeling like you have your own body and the mental impact of feeling like you might be broken.

So whilst society has a long way to go, there's a lot we can do ourselves everytime negative thoughts creep in. Remind ourselves that our body needs time to heal. And that takes time. It can take a year just for your bones to move back. that our bodies need nourishment not restrictions. That our bodies did something miraculous.

That it's not 'baby weight' - it's eyelashes, and toes, and perfect little bodies, and a placenta, and milk.

My Postnatal recovery will be very different this time as I'm choosing a C Section over a vaginal birth, but I know to be kind and patient with myself. And to give my body time to heal. And not let any company make me feel shit so they can profit from me. 🙏❤️🤰🏼
