After hiking up Mt Vinson we decided to climb the neighboring peak to the north, Mt Shinn, which I think is the third highest peak in Antarctica. We went straight up the big snowy wall in the first photo and then climbed a nice rocky ridge above to the summit. But it was a bit more serious of climbing and a bit colder so I hardly took any pictures (it’s a pain to take off gloves to snap a pic on my phone… easier to just keep going uphill…).
There’s a photo of us on the summit, and the view looking north at the next few peaks (which look very impressive, and much more technical). And one random pic of @estebantopomena on the descent ridge, just because I was excited to see real rock.
Overall, I thought that Shinn was a much cooler summit than Vinson, with much more interesting climbing. It’s too bad that it’s not a little bit taller - it feels a little neglected as a 3rd tallest peak. Everyone’s there to climb the biggest one…
