【Miyajima’s ⛩️】

Did you miss seeing Japan’s most famous floating torii? I did.

For the first time, Itsukushima Shrine’s torii gate reveals its beauty to the world after 3.5 years of reconstruction.

The current shrine gate is the 9th generation since the shrine’s founding over 1000 years ago. It was also my first time seeing it partially submerged in high tide.

The deers at Miyajima are the most docile and friendly and non aggressive (unlike the ones in Nara). They don’t beg for senbei crackers by performing a Japanese bow, because they are free to roam and graze naturally up the mountains and therefore are not hungry for snacks. So do be kind and gentle to them, too.
