I have been seeing several posts about an account that I didn’t know or follow of a beautiful young woman who devoted her life to caring for cats/kittens @youngestoldcatlady. I see that some of our IG friends follow her and are devastated and understandably so. To those who don’t know her or what happened, as I’m learning this info myself, she struggled with depression and she is no longer with us. So, I want to take a moment to honor this human being by shedding light on an often judged, misunderstood and ignored subject. Mental health. I know many of our IG friends have heard me mention my own struggles with depression. I had a very dark chapter that lasted a decade. I still live with depression. I always will. It’s not a “victim mentality”. It’s not because I’m “negative”. It’s certainly not because I’m “weak”. These are some words people use to describe those with mental health when they are ignorant to the subject. I’ve also worked in non profit for several years and volunteered on a suicide hotline and a crisis hotline. I have also lost a friend by way of suicide. But this isn’t about me. This is about everyone who struggles and those we’ve lost.
