In their newly launched book, ‘Singapore Ageing - Issues and Challenges Ahead’, edited by Dr S Vasoo, Professor Bilveer Singh, and Professor Srinivasan, the contributors share their thoughts on this pressing topic. They presented one possible grim scenario – escalating healthcare costs burdening the economy, and societal fractures from competing needs across different demographic groups. Singapore is determined not to end up there. We will push things in the right direction, by raising the retirement and re-employment ages as lifespans lengthen, ensuring retirement adequacy, and strengthening our healthcare system to meet the increasing demand. These things require a concerted effort from everybody. We all need to embrace ageing positively. Only then can we come together with the right mindset and strategies to tackle ageing in our society.
