Tavurvur, the smallest of the three volcanoes you’ll constantly see if you go to the Duke of York Islands, and the only active one. It’s only about a 45 minute climb up lava gravel, and the view from the rim is breathtaking! Inside the volcano you can see smoke rising, and when you turn around, you have a drones-eye-view of the islands below! After the hike, your local guides can show you a hot spring on the shore where they boil eggs! The view of this natural phenomenon where the hotspring meets the sea is absolutely stunning as well! You can also buy a few souvenirs from the local women here – I got a mini “shell money” ring, and learned that to this day they still use the bigger versions as forms of payment for things like marriage!
