After a 40-year career in engineering, he was able to turn his love for being naked into a second act as a nude model for artists.⁠ ⁠ Bufalo’s first modeling gig was in 2013 for an art class at Metropolitan State University in Denver. His initial thoughts, he says, were, “I can’t believe everybody’s looking at me naked,” and, “I’m getting paid for this.” He says he found the job through a notice posted at a nudist resort that he visits regularly.⁠ ⁠ Since then, he has modeled roughly 100 times at local colleges and art museums and for independent artists.⁠ ⁠ Bufalo isn’t self-conscious when he poses, he says, since the students don’t care about his body. “They just like the shape to depict in an art form.” The appreciative audiences enhance his self-esteem and self-worth, he adds.⁠ ⁠ “I’m amazed that at my age, and with a body and an expanded waistline, I get referrals to model,” he says.⁠ ⁠ He is pleased at the notion that his image might exist in some form beyond his lifespan.
