Was air travel really that bad in 2023?
Despite baggage handling issues, tarmac delays and high levels of customer complaints, major U.S. airlines canceled far fewer flights and were more punctual in 2023 than in years prior.
We ranked nine major U.S. airlines on seven equally weighted operations metrics: on-time arrivals, flight cancellations, extreme delays, baggage handling, tarmac delays, involuntary bumping and complaints.
Delta Air Lines led the pack in getting operations back on track, taking the crown again in our annual scorecard. Stuck in our rankings basement: JetBlue Airways, which notched its third consecutive last-place finish.
