The art of setting boulders or routes is often overlooked or outshone by the performances of the competitors. To hit just the right dose of difficulty is super difficult, as it demands a profound knowledge about climbing, the creativity for movement and a feeling for what is possible.

The quality of setting has a crucial stake in how electrifying competitions can be. The equation is harsh but simple: if the climbs are too easy, it will be boring to watch. If they are way too hard, it will also not shed the right light. In both cases, route setters - as the ones creating the climbs in the days ahead of the competition - will be the center of critique. For the audience, event organizer and climbers, myself included.

When @flathold approached me if I want to be part of an experiment bringing together climbers and route-setters to imagine what’s possible, I immediately wanted to join. Check out the video to get a glimpse. Link in bio
