Christie’s is honored to present Depth of Field: The Alan and Dorothy Press Collection this May. A highlight of the collection is a select group of nine exquisite works by Ed Ruscha, led by the iconic painting ‘Burning Gas Station.’

Dated 1966-1969,’Burning Gas Station’ is one of only five Standard Station paintings from the 1960s, and one of only two paintings to feature the fire motif. This singular and groundbreaking work is now considered an icon of twentieth-century post-war art. This May will be the second time in history that a Ruscha Standard Station painting has come to auction—the first was in a Christie’s New York Evening Sale in 2007 where it achieved the world auction record for the artist at the time of sale.
