Adeju Thompson, the Nigerian designer behind @lagosspaceprogramme, has won the 2023 International Woolmark Prize. “Coming from Nigeria, there’s no support from the government, so getting support from the Woolmark Prize means a lot,” the designer said after receiving the prize at a ceremony on Monday night in Paris. “I want to preserve and reinterpret Nigerian culture,” he added. The Karl Lagerfeld Award for Innovation went to Danish designer Amalie Røge Hove of A Roege Hove. The winners were selected by an industry panel including Alaïa creative director Pieter Mulier, Marni creative director Francesco Risso, and photographer Tyler Mitchell.
