Companies wouldn't survive if they made products that actually lasted a lifetime. For that reason, economic growth has long been synonymous with trash: the more shit we're sold, the more shit we end up throwing away.⁠

But as all that trash is squished into bags, it can be hard to visualize how much waste we're actually creating on a weekly basis. For his project "7 Days of Garbage," artist Gregg Segal (@greggsegal) asked his friends and family to save all their garbage and recyclables (of course, much of what we think is recyclable actually ends up being trashed) over the course of seven days, to help us do exactly that.
