Ms. Marie Laure Fleming, Director of the American Friends d’Orsay, kindly took us on a 90-minute, fully-guided tour of the museum. As I walked through the Manet and Degas exhibition, which was my main interest, I saw many works I had seen in Japanese museums when I was a student, and my brain started to go a bit haywire, causing me to shed tears. Then, further on, I saw Monet's painting of a woman holding a parasol, shown with the former collection of Gustave Caillebotte, the painter-patron-collector of Monet’s time, and my emotions exploded and I really burst into tears. The image of the heroine in Hayao Miyazaki's "The Wind Rises" painting a landscape in Karuizawa was exactly taken from this Monet painting. I was able to immerse myself in the thrill of viewing the painting with Jo Hisaishi’s @joehisaishi.official soundtrack playing full-volume in my head, my anime-infused brain spurring my excitement (though I had to remind myself which of these came first, of course).
