Waffle irons and the Willamette Valley. Patchouli and performance. This was the spirit of Eugene, Oregon in the 1970s. During this time, Nike was evolving and innovating rapidly which meant its graphic identity was too—especially on the t-shirt side of the hustle. Tees were the easiest way to communicate the brand’s rapidly developing identity. What’s most notable about these tees is that their bohemian, PNW-inspired look still influences much of the graphic work you still see in today’s designs.
