Following the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam in Ukraine on June 6, one of Europe’s largest reservoirs is now drying up. By June 15, the four primary canals of the Kakhovka Reservoir were disconnected forcing water levels to keep dropping. The United Nations projects that drinking water supplies will be affected for more than 700,000 people. Additionally, all nearby farmland will suffer without the irrigation water that previously came from the reservoir. Now that water levels have dropped this low, experts have noted the only way to refill the reservoir would be to repair the destroyed dam.
