Americans are getting a bit of a break this year, with inflation rapidly cooling after it touched a four-decade high to start last summer.
Overall consumer prices in June rose 3% from a year earlier, down sharply from the recent peak of 9.1% inflation in June 2022.
A separate measure of supplier prices that can indicate inflation in the pipeline rose just 0.1% from a year earlier in June, the Labor Department said Thursday. That gauge was up 11.2% in June 2022.
But inflation’s decline is uneven. Prices for some everyday items cost less last month than they did a year earlier, but other products cost significantly more.
